The significance of the double cask matured means that part of the whiskey matures on traditional drums, the other to ex-sherry butts. The traditional drums, also refill casks' called, contribute to the development of the subtle flavors in the whiskey. Sherry butts contribute to the development of rich aromas and give the whiskey a ruby golden color. After at least 16 years of traditional drums are merged with the ex-sherry butts.
Colour: Deep gold, amber
Nose: Rich, fragrance of flowers, sweet raisins with a spicy undertone
Taste: caressing, solid show of flowers, herbs, ripe plum and oak
Finish: Long, warm, spicy and fruity
Nose
Butterscotch, caramel, dates, figs, assorted nuts and milk chocolate. Bubble gum is there as well far back. Great nose actually!
Taste
Light mouthfeel, crisp and spicy arrival. Nutmeg, ginger, mild cinnamon and black pepper. It becomes fruity on the development with juicy raisins, orange peel and banana.
Finish
The finish is medium in length with the same spicy character. Also bitter almonds and hazelnuts. Some subtle notes of orange candy (Tic Tacs) after a while.
Comments
The nose was excellent, the palate and finish were decent but could definitely benefit from higher strength. The nose itself scores like 88-90 but the total score today is 85/100 in my book for a good affordable dram.
(Rating interval 83-86)
Nose
Vanilla, almond, green apple, orange, milk chocolate, hazelnut, citrus and raisin.
Taste
Orange, almond, vanilla, apple, hazelnut and nutmeg.
Finish
Marzipan, hazelnut, raisin, caramel, chocolate and a little smoke.
Comments
More bitter and more spicy than the 15 YO.
