Auchentoshan is the only single malt Scotch every drop distills three times, for softness, purity and subtlety. Therefore Auchentoshan has a pleasant light and accessible character. Auchentoshan is one of the two constantly producing Lowland malt distilleries. The distillery since 1823 based near Glasgow, at the foot of the Old Kilpatrick Hills; hence the name Auchentoshan, Gaelic for "corner of the field."
Auchentoshan is unique triple distillation "to apply for the production of single malt scotch. By using casks of different woods which earlier bourbon, sherry, port or wine have matured Auchentoshan malts get their subtle flavor nuances.
Auchentoshan is acclaimed. Recent accolades from his 2012 'Best Lowland' for Auchentoshan 1999 Wine Matured at the World Whiskies Awards and "Double Gold" for Auchentoshan Three Wood at the San Francisco World Spirits.
The "Three Wood" is a unique whiskey. This whiskey is matured in three different types of vessels: Bourbon American, Spanish sherry and Pedro Ximenez sherry Olorosso. This creates a complex whiskey with formidable caramel and sherry flavors, resulting in a deep, rich malt whiskey with aromas of toffee and plums. The taste is reminiscent of hazelnut, butterscotch and cinnamon, with intense long finish.
Lekkere whisky van de Auchentoshan destillerij!
Nose
Spicy on the nose, and rubber, I am thinking a bicycle tire. A very nice scent of organic solvent, like oil paint, powdered paprika and licorice. After water more caramel notes, burnt sugar and pepperoni.
Taste
Nice mouth fill, again spicy with herb salt and hints of smoked paprika, sweet notes with vanilla and brown sugar, cocoa and instant coffee. There is a vegetable note after water, I am thinking celery.
Finish
The finish is relatively short and vapid. There are some weak notes of cocoa and spices in finish but it's suddenly vanished.
Comments
The nose and the flavor was really nice and complex but the finish was a bit disappointing. Probably because i had some expectations. Nevertheless, it is an affordable everyday dram.
