Region: The Yecla wine region is located in the south-east of Spain and is divided into two regions: Campo Abajo, is located at an altitude of 400-500 meters and has a soil with more clay and limestone and produces somewhat lighter and fruitier wines. Campo Arriva is located at an altitude of 700-800 meters and has a soil with limestone and gravel and produces somewhat more powerful wines. Until 1975, the area belonged to the large wine region of La Mancha and large quantities of simple table wines were made. However, with the arrival of the own DO Yecla in 1975, the tide was turned and from that moment on, a lot of effort was put into improving the quality. This has ensured that the current Yecla wine region is one of the top regions in Spain.
About the winery: In 1925, Antonio Candela Garcia, founder of the Senorio de Barahonda winery, could not have imagined that his grandsons Antonio and Alfredo would expand the company into one of the top bodegas of Yecla that places great value on quality. Antonio Candela Garcia started out on a small scale with the purchase and sale of simple table wines, but his grandsons completely changed course in 2003 and are now considered the absolute top in quality wines from Yecla.
Tasting notes: Pale yellow colour combined with a rich aroma of ripe yellow fruit, green apples and a hint of honey. In the taste complemented by a mild acid balance, slightly exotic and a long finish.
Serving suggestions: With rich salads, risottos, fish and shellfish and as an aperitif.
