Area: Roussillon

Region: Vin de Pays from the south of France. Vineyards are located around the town of Perpignan in the Roussillon region. The climate is Mediterranean and warm. The soil consists of sandstone mixed with gravel and calcareous clay.

About the winery: Sandwiched between the azure blue Mediterranean and the mighty Pyrenees, in the extreme south of France between Perpignan and the coast, lies the 15th century mas Domaine Lafage. Around the centuries-old cellars there are no less than 140 hectares of vineyards on poor soils of schist and lime. The domain is now run by the sixth generations of vignerons: the passionate winemaker couple Jean-Marc and Eliane Lafage. After many wanderings around the world and working for various wine producers, Jean-Marc has returned to his parental wine nest.

Details/comments: The Grenache grapes for 'Narassa' are harvested when they are overripe and even slightly dried. This is also the technique that is called 'appassimento' in Italy, slightly dried grapes that add a lot of richness and sweetness to the wine.
