The Family Reserve Glen Garioch 1988 is the first in this series whose whiskeys are not only of excellent quality, but also have a personal story of the Morrison Family behind it. For example, the Morrison's owned this Glen Garioch Distillery in 1988 and Brian Morrison beautifully explains why this specific cask was so special. These numbered bottles are housed in a handmade wooden box that also bears a specially crafted commemorative plaque.
Glen Garioch from that time was a very "old-fashioned" and tasteful distillate. Not sweet, but rather spicy, often with influences from the use of peat when drying the barley.
Nose: first delicious juicy fruit (peach) with pickled orange peel, syrup and warm stroopwafel, smoldering wood (smoke) and a puff of peat.
Taste: here first the spices (cloves, cardamom) with a pinch of pepper. Honeycomb with both fresh orchard fruit, as well as included in apple pie and plum pie. All topped with fresh cream.
Finish: elegant and warming. All the rich flavors are complemented by a little more (peat) smoke at the end.
