The meaning of the double cask matured means that part of the whiskey is aged in traditional casks, the other part in ex-sherry butts. The traditional casks, also called 'refill casks', contribute to the development of the subtle aromas in the whiskey. Sherry butts contribute to the development of very rich aromas and give the whiskey a ruby gold color. After a minimum of 16 years, the traditional casks are merged with the ex-sherry butts.
