This grape variety, most likely originally from Germany, was introduced to Alto Adige around 1900. Today it is mainly grown in the Valle Isarco. Sylvaner prefers well-ventilated and sunny slopes at medium elevation, in the middle of Valle Isarco. The loose and gravelly soils give this wine a unique variety and although it is similar to its homonyms from the other side of the Alps, it retains the unmistakable characteristics of the Valle Isarco wines.
