With this bottling, Rampur has a real world first! The first Native American whiskey finished in Native American wine barrels. This rich whiskey has matured first in bourbon casks and then in Cabernet Sauvignon casks from India. The result is a fruity whiskey with complex spices in perfect balance. The whiskey is not cold filtered and only available on a limited basis.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Typical tropical fruity notes for which Rampur is known, complemented by apricot, blackberry and plum followed by a slight hint of tobacco and spices.
Taste: Velvety, honeyed sweetness emphasized by spicy oak, vanilla and balanced with dryness of Indian red wine.
Finish: Nice finish of dried fruit complimented by an aftertaste of vanilla and honey rounded off with a light, dry spiciness.
At the foot of the Himalayas, in the north of India, is the town of Rampur. Rampur is known for its rich heritage and royal traditions. Distillery has been going on here since 1943 at the Rampur Distillery. An important place, where the climate plays a very important role. The Himalayas offer completely different climate conditions all year round, giving Rampur an extra dimension and depth.
Rampur Indian Single Malt Whiskey is distilled in traditional copper pot stills at India's oldest distillery, built in 1943 with 75 years of distilling experience. It is a tribute to the Maharajas and the rich Indian history. The Maharajas used to rule the Indian kingdoms. The logo with the two sabers refers to this time.
Due to the high temperatures, Indian whiskey matures significantly faster than, for example, Scottish or Irish whiskey. It is made in the same way, but due to the warm and humid climate, the Angels' Share (the evaporation of the whiskey from the barrel) in India is no less than 11 to 12% per year, while in Scotland it is only 2% per year is.
