An exceptional Single Malt whiskey matured in specially selected casks that show the true character of a 15 year old Campbeltown Malt whisky. The whiskey is gently aged in the finest American casks before being bottled. The distinctive nose has hints of vanilla oak intertwined with the subtle notes of sea spray and spicy aromatic fruits.
Nose:
Richer colors. Broad and medium weight with citrus peel, ginger biscuits. Sweet with great depth. Apricot aromas develop and slide towards fruit salad. After a short while the wood comes to the fore, water helps to release the baked fruit.
Taste:
A separate and complicated palette where you initially expect the nose to lead to full fruit, but what you get is a surprisingly dry element. The taste replenishes as the first impressions of the nose disappear. Adding water balances the caramelized elements with the wood elements as you would expect from a 15 year old whisky.
finish:
Firm and slightly dry.
In the illustrious Victorian era, the whiskey region of Campbeltown was the epicenter of Scotland's whiskey industry. At the time there were no fewer than 30 distilleries in the region. However, a lot has changed over the years and many distilleries on the peninsula have closed. The closing of the many distilleries in combination with the small supply and the high demand has led to a shortage of the whiskey with the salty nose. Campbeltown is an isolated place, far from civilization and unique from the other areas of Scotland. The whiskey that is distilled here is in turn also unique and not comparable to whiskeys that come from the Speyside, Highlands, Islay or the Lowlands. Although there are currently only a few distilleries active on Campeltown, the style is quirky and has a unique and individual character. Due to its uniqueness, the Campbeltown region is classified as one of the 5 regions of Scotland. Each region has its own specific character and so does the whiskey from the Campbeltown peninsula, where only three distilleries are currently active.
Founded in 1832, Glen Scotia is one of those three distilleries. It is also one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. The craftsmanship and love for the water of life can still be seen at Glen Scotia. Each barrel is still selected and graded by the Master Blender, John Peterson. The Glen Scotia Distillery is still in almost the same condition as it was in the 19th century when then owner Duncan MacCallum refurbished the distillery. An idyllic place that makes many whiskey enthusiasts' hearts beat faster.
