William Hinton Ginja Limited Edition is a traditional liqueur from the village of Curral das Freiras on the island of Madeira.
Curral das Freiras is a small village in the heart of the island. Its history dates back to the 15th century when the region was regularly raided by pirates and privateers in search of loot and wealth. To protect themselves from these attacks, residents of neighboring villages took refuge in the mountains, where they founded a small community that became known as Curral das Freiras, which means "the nuns' corral" in English. Named after a group of nuns who sought shelter during the attacks.
William Hinton Ginja Limited Edition is made from selected sour cherries from Curral das Freiras, which are macerated for at least a year in a mixture of Madeira wine, Madeira rum and alcohol. Then separated and matured for 2 or 3 years in 225L French oak Ex-Madeira wine barrels.
The Ginja liqueur is a 100% natural product and is one of the favorite liqueurs of the inhabitants of the island of Madeira.
