Yoichi Single Malt is a range of single malt expressions from the Yoichi distillery, Nikka's first distillery built in 1934. Founder Masataka Taketsuru chose the town of Yoichi in Hokkaido because of its similar environmental conditions to Scotland, where he learned whiskey making.

Yoichi's malt whiskeys are described as powerful and strong with refined peat notes and smokiness from traditional coal distillation. Sea breeze from the Ishikari Bay gives a salty touch to the whiskey during maturation.

Yoichi 10's return after a seven-year absence is a big deal. In 2001, it won the “Best of the Best” award in a Whiskey Magazine blind tasting. There was stiff competition from Scotland. And this prize was the first of a series of prizes awarded to Japanese whisky.
