The Tamdhu Cigar Malt III is the third exclusive bottling of this special single malt matured in the finest first-fill European oak Oloroso sherry casks.
These barrels, like any leaf in a cigar, contribute to the Cigar Malt's distinctive natural color and robust flavor. In turn, this whiskey is the perfect complement to the profile of the world's finest cigars.
Non-chill-filtered and at 53.8% ABV, the whisky mimics the spice, aroma and mouthfeel of aged tobacco leaves, resulting in a rich texture and powerful flavour.
The dedication to quality and craftsmanship makes for an unforgettable experience, perfect for whisky lovers seeking a companion to their most cherished cigars or for non-smokers; it is an exceptional dram in its own right.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Gingerbread dipped in honey, with unmistakable notes of sherry and oak.
Taste: Panna cotta with raisins dipped in sherry and malt biscuits.
Finish: A hint of apricot jam, ending with rich praline.
There was a time when the world looked to Scotland for the next innovation. From the steam engine, which started the industrial revolution, to the invention of penicillin, it all happened in Scotland.
Driven by the optimism that prevailed at the end of the 19th century, five Scottish whisky merchants embarked on an ambitious plan: to produce the world's finest Single Malt Whisky.
After acquiring a unique site on the banks of the Spey, Charles C. Doig Esq, a distinguished distillery architect and engineer, becomes involved. Doig insists on using only the most advanced whisky production techniques, to deliver unparalleled consistency in quality.
In 1897, the year Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee, construction began on the most advanced distillery of its time. For example, a water wheel was placed under the floor for optimum performance, the kilns were designed to reduce heat loss, and the residual waste from the Archimedes' Screw was transported directly to the distillery's own station on the (then) Strathspey Railway, where the railway line ensured a rapid supply of ingredients and a rapid removal of the whisky.
Tamdhu is also called the "Can-Dhu-Spirit" of the great Industrial Revolution. The distillery then survives the ups and downs of the 20th century, is closed and reopened several times, only to be closed again in 2010. But not for long, because in 2011 Ian Macloud, family business and independent bottler takes over the distillery. From 2012 production is resumed, entirely in the spirit of the "founding fathers" of the distillery.
The raw materials, such as barley and peat, come from the immediate vicinity of the distillery and Tamdhu's whiskies are characterised by their maturation in ex-sherry casks, so in fact the traditional Speyside whiskies, which are rarely found today.
