Casa Vinicola Luca – a family business steeped in deep roots that reach back to a time intertwined with history. However, modern times were a brutal period for this family; under the Soviet regime, all their properties were confiscated, and a large part of the family was deported to hard labor in Siberia. Grandfather Grigore cherished the tradition and produced wine throughout his life, albeit in limited domestic circumstances, as entrepreneurship was not permitted at the time. During the period of Perestroika, father Ion worked at one of the largest wineries in the country, Cricova, where he, together with his son Vasile, played a role in creating some of Moldova’s most acclaimed wines. After traveling extensively around the world, son Ion decided to return to the family tradition once taken away by the Soviet regime – producing wine under their own name. Thus, Casa Vinicolă Luca was born, with the CARPE DIEM wine range being the first to be launched in 2014. These wines, composed mainly of indigenous grape varieties, supplemented with a few international varieties, were quickly recognized and awarded. The story of this family is not only an account of survival and triumph, but also a chronicle of determination to preserve traditions and continue a legacy, even in the wake of historical trials.
