The maturation process for the Glenfiddich 15 Years Old - The Glenfiddich Solera system - is unique within the Scotch whiskey distilleries.

The fifteen year old malt whiskey is matured to perfection in three different oak casks: sherry casks, traditional bourbon casks and barrels of new oak. Then the whiskey is transferred into an impressively large, handmade wooden barrel of 32,000 liters - the so-called Solera vat - that is always at least half full. This ensures a constant quality of the whiskey. The process ends with a short aging period into smaller Solera barrels, so the whiskey can coalesce into a perfectly balanced whole (marrying).

Tasting Notes:

Color: bright gold

Smell: full and fragrant with delicate honey and vanilla accents

Taste: soft, with a great depth to the flavors of fruit, spice and oak combine

Bearing: at least 15 years in new oak, bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. Then combined in a filled at least by half, Solera barrel (35,000 liter capacity).
