OBAN 14 YEAR OLD
Around the distillery is a lively coastal town emerged after Oban settled in a fishing village. Two centuries ago The West Highland single malt is still produced in the same quiet, traditional way. A combination of light smoke, semi-attractive taste and spice.
Alcohol content
43% vol.
Appearance
Olive Gold
Nose
Full of sweets and fruits - oranges, lemons and pears, with sea salt and peaty smokiness.
BODY
Full and heavy.
Taste
Mouth-filling fruit from late autumn â € "dried figs and honey-sweet spices, followed by a smoky, malty dryness.
Aftertaste
Long, smooth-sweet finish with oak, dry with a touch of salt.
Excellent choice if you love a citrus orange like first layer, followed by a slight sherry infused second layer with hints of peppery honey. Not really complex compared to other 14 year old single malts but very enjoyable.
Nose: Burning bonfire smoke fades away bringing some medicinal notes and fermented fruits. There's also something very pointy and repulsive, like drying paint.
Taste: Thick and smooth. Oak, malt, wine and fruits.
Finish: Very strongly sour and dry at first, like chewing painted wood. Then some nice faints of smoke rise along with hints of fruit. Long finish but still the weakest part.
Balance: Sophisticated smoke, quite rich but not the most consistent drams I've tasted.
Nose
Apple, plum, citrus, mint, pear, honey, malt and strawberry. A little sickly but not all that bad.
Taste
The meatiness of exhausted sherry casks with some mint (perhaps even peppermint chewing gum) and pepper from the bourbon barrels. Quite bitter as well... almonds? Fortunately still someting fruity like strawberries and some smoke. Pretty sharp for its low ABV. Very hard to pinpoint this one, almost like a blend.
Finish
Plum, mint, strawberries and smoke. Very dry in the long run.
