Old Ballantruan fired in the prestigious Speyside Glenlivet whiskey region of "heavily peatet barley" and has a unique sweet smoky character. Old Ballantruan is an oddity, because the Speyside Glenlivet region takes only a few "peated" whiksky's survival. Old Ballantruan owes its name to the same source from which water is drawn for the preparation of this malt.

Both Old Ballantruan unaged as the 10 Years Old combine the tones sweeter Speyside whiskey with the smoke character peated whiskey, however, without the express, which show iodine type of peated Islay whiskeys. The result is Old Ballantruan's unique soft sweet-smoky character. Old Ballantruan is bottled at 50% alcohol, to preserve all the subtle flavor nuances of the distillate.
