Balvenie 14 Years Old Caribbean Cask 0,70 ltr 43%

Ik was nooit een whiskey echte drinker totdat ik deze fles kado kreeg van een restauranthouder. Sindsdien ben ik een liefhebber van de betere whiskeys, en had ik een rondreis door Schotland geboekt welke helaas is geannuleerd door die corona ellende.

Nose: Fruity and woody in a mellow way. Too light for my taste but reminds me of fine rums.

Taste: Round with sweet vanilla mixed with dry fruits and oak. The feel of rum is there very much.

Finish: Long but not for my taste. The dry rum cask wins the battle, giving few chances for the sugar canes to impact.

Balance: Overall in good balance but maybe not enough character for my taste. Still an okay dram, offering a round palate.

Nose
Honey and molasses, brown sugar, complex spices, vanilla and wood spice. There is sweet honey as well as bitter honey in this one. After the addition of water floral notes appear with coffee and artificial orange/orange candy.

Taste
The arrival is soft with honey, syrup and butter scotch. The rum influence is unmistakably in the development with molasses, vanilla sugar, oak and complex tropical fruits. With water, sweet banana and soft spices appear.

Finish
Subtle spices, brown sugar, creme brûlée and pepper.

Comments
A consistent and well matured Balvenie. Not all distillates are compatible with rum-casks but it suits Balvenie, no doubt.
