Scarabus Islay Single Malt 46% 6 CL Sample Read more..
0.06 liters. 46%
A farm distillery once produced Islay whiskey under the name Scarabus. This only lasted 1 year in 1817-1818. Now Hunter Laing has bottled a nice Islay Single Malt under this name.
The current Scarabus farm is located along the road to Port Askaig and if you turn left just before the ferry you will eventually arrive at the new Ardnahoe Distillery from Hunter Laing.
So there are enough starting points that make Hunter Laing able to bottle a very beautiful Islay Single Malt. And that is what they have done.
This Scarabus is bottled at 46%, not filtered cold and not colored. So you can expect pure scents and flavors that are so characteristic of Islay whiskeys.
Nose: the scent of Islay peat smoke with sea salt followed by warm leather, cooked rhubarb and red berries.
Taste: soft on the tongue with vanilla sweetness mixed with the red fruit. Then the sea salt and peat smoke take over.
Finish: rich and warming with more peat smoke and especially pepper.
