Isle Of Harris The Hearach Single Cask 1790 55.1% 6 CL Sample

Our single cask, #1790 came from a First Fill ex-Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel. At the time of tasting the alcohol percentage was almost 60% Vol. Alc. We have judged this whisky in 2 ways. At cask strength and around 55% Vol. Alc. Here are the tasting notes:

At 60% Vol. Alc.

Nose : rich, full and fruity
Taste : accessible, fruity with light peat in the background
Finish : the peat is now much more evident but displaces the fruitiness

At 55% Vol. Alc.

Nose : The nose is now much more intense, both in richness and fruitiness
Taste : the whisky is also much more expressive in taste. The peat also comes through better.
Finish : as in the taste, the peat comes through well in the finish, although it is a little drier.

The peat experience is somewhere between Highland and Islay peat.

Thus we have unanimously decided to have cask #1790 bottled at around 55%. Two nice details about this cask.

The French importer has chosen cask #1789 and our cask #1790 would have been marked for single cask bottling by Harris Distillery if we had chosen another cask. Fun fact…..
