THE STORY BEHIND THE RUM
Rum is a distilled alcoholic drink made from sugarcane by-products such as molasses. The molasses is fermented and distilled to become a clear liquid, which is then usually aged in oak barrels.

Our quest started with the idea to blend rums that are created in this natural way. Natural meaning that no sugar or other flavoring additives are added. By blending two rum styles we have found the perfect ingredients to make the rum sweet, fruity and rich of smoothness.

Firstly we blended several 3 to 5-year old rums from Barbados, a country that is known for its English style rum. We find this rum to be full of that wonderful, authentic flavor with a smoothness to top it off. We then chose to combine this with rum from the Dominican Republic, with a similar age of 3 to 5 years old. Rum from the Dominican Republic is known to follow the Spanish style, which is known for its sweeter taste. These two natural rums are already a wonderful combination; however, we wanted to add more fruity tones. One type of rum instantly came to mind: Jamaican pot still rum! It’s known for its high ester, which adds that subtle taste of fruitiness to your Mates Gold Rum.
