The vineyard

Adega Cooperativa de Silgueiros, CRL is a wine cooperative with approximately 2000 members. These wine producers are located in Silgueiros, in the Dão Wine Region. The Cellar was founded in 1962 and started production in 1964. The main goal of founding The Cellar was to create a successful production and distribution for such a famous wine as the Dão Wine, and in particular the Silgueiros Wine.

Silgueiros

Silgueiros is located in the municipality of Viseu, about 9 km from the centre. Given its geographical location, Silgueiros has a privileged position for the production of this precious nectar. The terroir, originally sandy loam, gives a wonderful aroma to the wines produced here. With large slopes overlooking the Serra da Estrela mountain and the Dão River, Silgueiros has a unique climate for the ripening of the grapes. Silgueiros is located in the heart of the Dão wine region.

The region

In the Dão region, eight grape varieties are mentioned as the basis for wine production. Five of them are red and three are white. The red grape varieties are: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Pinheira. The white grape varieties are: Encruzado, Malvazia Fina and Borrado das Moscas. In fact, each of our indigenous grape varieties has a viticultural and oenological potential to be vinified separately as a (mono) varietal wine, but it is in their blend and combination that the full power and prestige of these wines is expressed.
