The Paul John Distillery is located in tropical Goa and is part of John Distilleries. The Single Malts came onto the market in 2012. They use an Indian “Six-Row Barley” for their whiskeys. This grows at the feet of the Himalayan mountains. Compared to the “Two-Row Barley” that they use elsewhere, this gives them a fruitier and oilier spirit. Ripening in the tropical climate of Goa, with its high temperatures and humidity, is many times faster than in colder Scotland. The Angel Share of their whiskeys is therefore between 8-10%. Part of their storage is underground for cooler and quieter maturation of their barrels. They import the peat for their smoky whiskeys from Scotland. From the Isle of Islay and away from Aberdeen.
