Ron Coloma was conceived under the ancient trees of the Hacienda Coloma. That is a colonial house built at the end of the 19th century in Fusagasugá, a city in the heart of Colombia. In 1959, Don Alberto Constain Medina (1924-2005) bought Hacienda Coloma from his cousin, and planted the Excelso coffee plant in his gardens. He sells this coffee under the name of his Hacienda: Coloma.
To further realize his dream, Don Alberto hires two young Colombians, maestras roneras, Sandra Reátegui and Judith Ramírez. Unfortunately, a major economic crisis forces Don Alberto to sell the most important elements of his distillery. He is retiring from Hacienda Coloma, ending a career he considers incomplete. This is because he has not fulfilled his dream of distilling and maturing rum in Hacienda Coloma.
The Single Cask
To make this special bottle of rum, rum master Eduardo selected the cask. The cask name and number you see on the label are a proud reflection of this bottle's single-cask origins. And the vintage year of this rum - the year the barrel was filled with our freshly distilled rum -, in this case 2007, reveals its age.
Like all of Hacienda Coloma, this rum was aged briefly before being bottled in barrels previously used for aging the well-known Coloma Coffee Liqueur. To maintain its single-cask character, this special edition Rum is only lightly hydrated with water from the Andes Mountains and also remains unfiltered. There is no other rum that better reflects our handcrafted origins and the values that make Hacienda Coloma what it is today.
