Laphroaig, pronounced "la froik" is a Gaelic word meaning "the beautiful bowl with wide bay means. A good reference to the location of the distillery. This is in Port Ellen in the south of the island of Islay.
The single malt whiskeys from Laphroaig are tough by the wild aromas of peat, seaweed and iodine. Especially the iodine makes a special Laphroaig whiskey. The typical smell onststaat grow and die in the seaweed.
The air of medicinal iodine by the salty west across the Atlantic carried to the warehouses of Laphroaig, where it reaches the breathing barrels of maturing whiskey.
