The production of qvevri wines at the Makashvili Wine Cellar has deep roots in Prince Makashvili's family. The traditional qvevri winemaking method, which is more than 8,000 years old, is still practiced with passion. Vaziani Winery is a worthy custodian of this rich cultural and historical tradition. The Makashvili Wine Cellar, part of Vaziani, has its origins in the estate of the Makashvili family from the second half of the 15th century. The cellar houses qvevri barrels that are more than 120 years old and were discovered beneath the ground of the Vaziani Winery during the restoration in 2012. Of the approximately 200 qvevri barrels found, only 39 could be saved from damage. The wines are crafted with care and dedication according to the traditional qvevri method and are produced in limited quantities, which has contributed to their worldwide recognition.
