Zorah Karasi is a very unique amphora wine from Vayots Dzor. Zorah's very first wine, “Karası” is made from the indigenous Areni grape variety, from ungrafted vines, which grows at 1,400 meters above sea level. Armenian Areni is unique in itself, as this grape variety is considered one of the oldest grape varieties in the world. Karasi is fermented naturally in the raw concrete vats and for a longer period of time in the traditional amphorae. Hence the name “Karası” which literally translated means 'amphoras'. The wine matures in these traditional amphorae for 1 year. Before the wine leaves the winery, it matures in the bottles for 6 months.
Zorah Karasi turns a light, brilliant purple in the glass. This wine smells of smoky mulberry and cassis. Wonderfully bright cassis and Beaujolais-like grape in the mouth. Excellent acidity makes the wine juicy and quite easy to drink. The ripe tannins give substance to the bright fruit. We recommend that you combine the wine with roasted meat, dark red fruit. Please serve at a temperature of 15ºC.
Zorah Wines is a prestigious and very successful Armenian wine company. It was founded in 2003 by Zorik Gharibian, an Armenian who grew up in Italy. From the start, the goal was to put Armenian wine on the map in the international top segment. This was achieved with the renowned Italian winemaker Alberto Antonini, who previously makes wine for Antinori and Frescobaldi in Italy. Zorah works with indigenous Armenian grape varieties and uses amphorae to ferment the wine. As has been the practice in Armenia for 8,000 years.
