Caol Ila summary Description title Descriptiion
Sterkte: 43%
Kleur: Strogeel.
Nose: Smoked ham comes across delicately with citrus and cigar leaves. Fresh and smoky, probably the best part of this whisky.
Taste: With an almost full body, oil and tar meet subtle smoke. Hints of sweet tastes like honey.
Finish: Finish is quite long, lacks a little bit of smoke but it is still smoky. Some spices like pepper combined with little sweetness.
Balance: Not the best ones of Islay but still a good one. Smooth and delicately smoky whisky, great for smoky beginners.
Proost!
Nose
Peat smoke, grass, burnt grass, band-aid, artificial banana. After some water the nose becomes sweeter, white sugar, cotton candy is in there somewhere.
Taste
Peat smoke again, maritime, malty, the wet grass, firebox. With water it becomes more herbal, a bit sweeter, icing sugar far back together with caramel but strong peat and black pepper are the dominating features.
Finish
The finish is long and peppery with smoke and salty licorice, anise seed and fennel notes. again grass and brine.
Comments
The sugar notes are there but quite restricted. Herbal, smoky salt water lead the flavor profile. It is quite interesting to compare with an unpeated Caol Ila as well, a lot of the sweeter flavors are there as well but needs water and time in the glass to be noticed.
(Rating interval 83-86)

This belongs to my TOP-3 list of whisky, all whisky! The taste is surprisingly mild for an Islay whisky. The finish however includes the characteristic peatiness of Islay.
I usually recommend this to friends who do not have much experience with peaty/smoky Scotch and want an easy start to that world.
Nose
Peat, dark chocolate, lime, peach, salt and a whiff of a horse stable. Nice balance.
Taste
Peat, sweet lime, chocolate and smoked cod. A little salt & pepper and a whiff of ammonia. A bit too diluted in the long run.
Finish
Mainly peat with some spice, not so much of the fruitiness that is quite prominent in the nose.
