Ardbeg Corryvreckan is vernoemd naar de zuigende, duistere kracht van de levensgevaarlijke draaikolk tussen de Hebridische eilanden Islay en Jura. Corryvreckan is Europa’s grootste en ’s werelds één-na-grootste draaikolk en is net zo ‘Big & Untamed’ als de spirit van Ardbeg. Het hart van Corryvreckan’s karakter komt van Ardbeg spirit die in Franse eiken vaten langzaam gerijpt is tot whisky, in plaats van in Amerikaans eiken.
Gebotteld op 57.1% ABV zonder koude filtering.
Kleur: Diep amber
Geur: Intens en krachtig. In eerste instantie trekt de diepe en wilde kracht van de Corryvreckan volledig de aandacht. Teer en lijnzaadolie smelten samen met wasachtige donkere chocola, warme zwarte bessen, donkere suiker en dennennaalden. Met water brengen zoute kruiden het karakter van pittig zeewier en gerookte bacon, gebalanceerd door een hint van vanille, kruidnagel en bosbessen. Het eindigt met een explosie van menthol, stroop en spaanse peper.
Smaak: Diepe en intense smaken en texturen. Gepeperd vlees, knapperig zeewier en zwarte teerachtige espresso volgen elkaar snel op. Gesmolten donkere vruchten en bittere amandelen bedekken het gehemelte waarna verrassende viooltjes naar voren komen.
Finish: Lang, diep en blijvend krachtig in de afwerking met zwarte teerachtige koffie, met chocolade bedekte kersen en hete pepersaus.
Nose: Very intense smoke, smoke fried bacon with tar and pine trees. This dram is playing with heavy peat!
Taste: Nicely salty and smoky, richly peat. Some oil, spices and medicinal appeal.
Finish: Peat and smoke collide with small oil drops mixed in there as well.
Balance: Like having a camp fire barbeque in whisky heaven.
Nose
Peat smoke, smoked bacon, baked bananas, massive with tar, grass, is it wet grass or hay? Both I believe. Some dry leather and fresh tobacco is in the background. Yeah, definitely some butter scotch as well.
Taste
Peat smoke and sugar, burnt sugar, fried bananas and syrup, smoky sweetness, really complex. Bacon again, salty caramelized bacon and black pepper.
Finish
It's really long, THIS IS A FINISH! Behind the peat smoke there is a distinct fruitiness that returns right back on the palate. Some chili pepper and brine.

Still a classic in the peated segment. It's more peppery than the Uigeadail, plus more bourbon influence. I actually like this one better.
